Description
[Machine Translation] This boxed set includes Elgar's highly original "Enigma Variations" and Holst's masterpiece Suite "The Planets," two masterpieces from the BBC documentary drama "Hidden Portraits - Enigma Variations. In the BBC documentary drama Hidden Portrait - Enigma Variations, Sir Andrew Davis unravels the mystery of Elgar's hidden musical mysteries against the backdrop of the rolling Morvan hills. The entire Enigma Variations will then be performed in the Cathedral in Elgar's hometown of Worcester. The "Planets" will be performed in a version of Colin Matthews's now-obsolete "Pluto," with a supplement to the original. The BBD Welsh Orchestra, under the baton of David Atherton, will perform this atmospheric work. Video director Rhodri Huw combines footage shot in various locations around the world with computer graphics and animatronics to reveal the symbolic meaning of each planet as conceived by Holst. Both of these images were highly controversial when they were first released.
